The March 2026 edition drew more than 600 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions and over 25,000 visitors from 113 countries and regions.
Research forecasts the global yarn, fibre and thread market at US$182.7 billion by 2032.
The 2027 floor plan includes an International Zone plus eight product areas, from Cashmere Yarn to Digital Solutions.
Yarn Expo sits in Messe Frankfurt's Texpertise Network: 60+ textile fairs in 15 countries, 500,000+ participants.
Yarn Expo Spring will return to Shanghai's National Exhibition and Convention Center on 10–12 March 2027, after a record March 2026 edition drew more than 600 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions and over 25,000 visitors from 113 countries and regions.
The show serves the upstream tier of the textile supply chain — spinners, filament producers and fibre suppliers — and runs alongside Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition, Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles – Spring Edition, CHIC and PH Value. Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT, organise the event.
What did the 2026 numbers show?
The 2026 participation figures confirmed Shanghai's pull as a sourcing destination for yarn buyers. Exhibitors included Better International, Circ Inc, Everest Textile and Toray Industries, and several reported concrete commercial engagement.
Raj Bhimani, Sales Manager of Spinfab Spinners, which exhibited in the India Pavilion, said: "The fair provided an exceptional platform for connecting with the global textile community."
Bhimani reported interest from two distinct buyer segments: luxury European suit manufacturers seeking durable, aesthetically distinctive yarns, and mass-market fashion buyers from Southeast Asia looking for consistent quality and scalable production capacity. That split matters for spinners deciding which markets to target with limited exhibition budgets.
Wilmet Shea, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, said: "In a changing economic landscape, last year's record participation showed how important it is for the yarn and fibre industry to meet in Shanghai, exchange ideas and understand what the market needs next."
How big is the market opportunity?
Research cited by the organisers forecasts the global yarn, fibre and thread market will reach US$182.7 billion by 2032. Asia-Pacific remains central to spinning, filament production and downstream textile manufacturing, and China's integrated fibre, yarn, textile and machinery industries keep Shanghai positioned as an international sourcing hub.
What will the 2027 floor plan cover?
The 2027 edition will span natural, man-made and speciality fibres and yarns, arranged in an International Zone plus eight dedicated product areas:
- Cashmere Yarn
- Cotton Yarn
- Chemical Fibre
- Fancy Yarn
- Linen Yarn
- Silk Yarn
- Wool Yarn
- Digital Solutions
The sector-focused layout lets buyers identify materials, technologies and suppliers for specific applications without walking the full floor.
A fringe programme will run alongside the halls, including China Yarns Fashion Trends, Tongkun China Fibre Fashion Trend 2027/2028, New Fibre New World – Textile Materials Innovation Activities and selected enterprise product launches. These sessions target the translation of R&D into commercially viable textile products.
Why are material requirements shifting?
Organisers report buyers increasingly want fibres and yarns that combine technical performance with credible environmental and supply-chain credentials. Demand is growing in three areas: recycled and bio-based raw materials, improved traceability, and safer manufacturing processes. Specialised technical yarns, including glass fibre products, are also drawing attention for strength, thermal performance and processing characteristics.
Suppliers making claims in these categories should expect buyers to press for documentation rather than marketing language. Traceability requests at sourcing fairs increasingly map back to certification schemes and regulatory requirements.
Yarn Expo Spring forms part of Messe Frankfurt's Texpertise Network, which connects more than 500,000 industry participants through over 60 international textile trade fairs in 15 countries.
For yarn and fibre suppliers, the decision is straightforward: the March 2026 numbers show buyer traffic concentrated in one venue over three days, and the 2027 edition's product-zone structure rewards suppliers that book into the category where their target buyers — whether European luxury mills or Southeast Asian volume manufacturers — actually walk.
