Liverpool Los Angeles will place 80 percent of its Spring/Summer 2027 line in “Classic Comfort” or “Move With You” fabrications, according to executive vice president Holly Arnesen. She spoke at Magic by Informa’s Las Vegas trade show, where denim brands and suppliers described a shift from rigid, close-fitting silhouettes toward stretch, drape, texture and wide-leg cuts for casual wear across occasions and seasons.
Arnesen said: “Our customer loves comfort.” The brand favors straight and slim fits over skinnies, while prioritizing wide cuts without excess width. Its wholesale portfolio exceeds 1,500 national specialty stores, a handful of department stores including Bloomingdale’s and Dillard’s, and box businesses Stitch Fix and Daily Look.
Joanne Zhan, director of JNN Garment Co. in Guangzhou, China, said jacquards blending denim with chenille have been popular for fall, while floral jacquards woven into denim have drawn spring attention. The subtle texture adds print-like interest while preserving neutral pairing with other colors and patterns, she said.
SJ Denim published the report in its Fall 2026 issue.
Comfort and texture reshape the brief
Liverpool is refreshing its design perspective to attract younger shoppers. Mark D’Angelo, vice president of men’s, spoke about the women’s collection and said: “We’re updating… bringing in the younger customer because with any business, whether you’re a retailer or a manufacturer, you have to capture your next generation shopper.”
The typical Liverpool customer is in their mid-30s and older; the next target is shoppers in their late 20s. He wants fashion-forward pieces without losing the brand identity.
Arnesen identified laser-etched patterns, embroidery, colored denim and florals as spring novelty drivers. Its core customers value fabrications ranging from rigid to “Light As Air.” Styles with the hand-feel of a yoga pant target casual use, and she called the midpoint between rigid and full stretch the sweet spot.
She put 80 percent of the line in the comfort and movement categories, with varying degrees of stretch and structure. Arnesen described petite as the brand’s fastest-growing business, though it remains a smaller share of volume.
An associate at Judy Blue Jeans, a size-inclusive label covering sizes 0 to 24, said high-stretch tummy-control styles and lightweight “featherweight” fabrications are trending for spring in wide legs and capri lengths. She expects wide, light summer styles, then darker fall washes, flares and boot cuts. Wide legs should endure because they remain classic, she said.
Xavier Kruckenberg, trade show manager for Hidden Jeans, said rigid denim retains consumer appeal even as comfort leads. Its dad jeans have hit with buyers because they retain a 100% cotton look and feel while hiding a small amount of spandex in the weave. He said the construction adds stretch without losing the classic appearance.
Printed denim is another Hidden success area, particularly muted or faded leopard and camouflage motifs. Kruckenberg said those pieces add visual interest without looking extreme enough for day-to-day wear.
Hidden’s lightweight “Cloud Tech” fabrication combines linen-pant drape with sweatpant comfort. Kruckenberg described it as thin, lightweight and flowy in wider legs for spring-summer. The Nori jean used the fabric and featured a drawstring waist.
Silver Jeans plans a spring tie-front jean in a soft fabrication, sales director Michael Irving said. Its beach pant is a drapey, comfortable alternative to traditional denim and carries over from last season’s program. The Spring 2027 version will use several indigo washes and seasonal colors, including dusty pink and ecru.
Wide-leg styles remained central, with tonal floral embroidery running subtly up some legs. Irving also described a barrel jean in the fall and holiday market, followed by a slightly longer culotte. He said skinnies retain a place, but wide legs and crops now carry greater relevance.
What does this change for denim sourcing?
For mills, cutters and garment suppliers, the disclosed product brief points to comfort-led stretch, lightweight drape, wider cuts, tactile jacquards, controlled prints and embroidery. Rigid denim has not disappeared. Hidden reports buyer demand, and Liverpool keeps rigid constructions within its range.
The interviews establish product intent, not purchase commitments. No speaker disclosed order volumes, unit forecasts, factory headcount, capacity investment, prices, tariff treatment or sourcing-country allocations. Only JNN’s Guangzhou base was identified, and no broader supplier map was provided. No market rumor or competing demand estimate was cited.
The defensible sourcing decision is narrower than the trend headlines imply. Teams can qualify stretch, lightweight and wide-leg programs for 2027, but should not add capacity or shift production countries until brands provide firm order data, factory details and country-level sourcing plans.
